Australian College of Youth Training Inc. Overview
  About us ACYT Inc

ACYT has been formed to address the needs of young people in today’s complex world. Our Cert IV Youth Work course is nationally accredited, and designed to train students to work with young people, especially those who are struggling to make a successful transition from childhood to become community-integrated adults. At a different level, our Cert I Work Preparation course in is aimed at teenagers at risk, those who are not flourishing in the secondary school environment and demonstrating withdrawn or rebellious behaviour. These are run in conjunction with local schools and students are normally referred by the teaching staff. The Cert 1 course is normally delivered in conjunction with a tailored, one-on-one adult mentoring program through our associates, ECHO Youth Services.

We are a Christian-based organisation who wish to encourage a sense of self-worth into those young people who lack self-esteem at a fundamental level, instill ethical and moral standards that will help them cope with life and assist them in becoming active participants in the workplace and local community. The college has tax deductibility status (Note2). if you are interested in helping our work in the wider community please contact the treasurer at info@acyt.org.au

What sets us apart

ACYT is not set up to compete directly with other educational establishments. It provides practical training, at several levels, in the specialist field of working with youth at risk.

"In a youth culture which changes quicker than the weather it is vital to be in touch with the heartbeat of young people. We can only train as effectively as the measure of connection we have with youth and the changing experiences of interacting with those young people.

Robert Coyle - Executive Director of Youth Dimension

Many of our students come from churches and other not-for-profit organisations who work with young people.
Armed with some very valuable, practical experience, our Cert IV graduates are able to effectively launch new initiatives and new programs in their own communities.

Note1 - Whilst we are unashamedly a Christian-based organisation, ACYT is not a thinly disguised recruitment agency for the church designed to appeal to the most vulnerable. At no time do we preach, teach theology, apply pressure or try to tempt our students to join any sort of church congregation. Just to see these young people at risk take responsibility for their own lives is enough.

Note2 - We would like to gratefully acknowledge the ATO for allowing us to have PBI status (Public Benevolent Institution). This allows us to provide tax-deductable receipts to Australian residents for donations towards this valuable work.
